In this fifth session of the IGV–TIP Genealogy Webinar Series, Maarten Fornerod, secretary of the Indische Genealogische Vereniging (igv.nl), walks participants through the seven waves of repatriation from the Dutch East Indies and Indonesia to the Netherlands, from the 1945 Bersiap-era evacuees through the 1962 New Guinea wave and the post-1965 departure of Peranakan Chinese under the Suharto regime.
Maarten shows where to find the passport and nationality records tied to each wave, and how to trace an actual repatriation voyage using the IGV’s ship and passenger databases, Herman van Oosten’s site, and Archieven.nl — illustrated with a real case of a family sailing from Surabaya to Amsterdam aboard the ship Cheshire in 1951.
