In this second session of the IGV–TIP Genealogy Webinar Series, Maarten Fornerod, secretary of the Indische Genealogische Vereniging (igv.nl), explores how to find Dutch civil records created after World War II that contain East Indies information.
Maarten walks participants through the Persoonskaart (PK) system — personal record cards that capture names, birth dates, birthplaces, spouses, parents, children, addresses, profession, and religion — and explains how to request them via the Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie. He also covers how to track down records for family members who emigrated, using the Vestigingsregister at the municipality of The Hague, and demonstrates free searches through the Amsterdam City Archive, OpenArchieven, and Wie Was Wie. Using his own family history as a worked example, Maarten shows how these Dutch post-war records can bridge the gap between East Indies origins and destinations in the Netherlands, the United States, and beyond.
